Weddings

Congratulations!

St. John's Portsmouth Wedding

We are honored to be a part of your BIG DAY – and more importantly – we look forward to the process of helping you prepare for what happens after the BIG DAY -being married!  Adding to the enchantment of your marriage is the custom of the ringing of Gabriel, our church tower bell, at the end of your wedding ceremony--its peals announcing to all, the beginning of your lives together.

You will spend far more time together as a married couple than you will in planning for your wedding, so we want to help you prepare appropriately. As part of that preparation, we require you to participate in pre-marital counseling.

We understand that there are many pressing concerns and we want to be sensitive to them – from reception location to flowers – all of them will help make your wedding incredible. However, none of them will help your marriage. So, first things first.

Marriage is not merely a civil agreement between two parties; it is a sacred covenant that springs from the very heart of the One who created it.  Marriage is not about efficiency, economics, or even sex.  The love between the couple is to mirror the love that Jesus Christ has for us, his church.

As a norm, those interested in marriage should plan to become active in parish life and contact the rector before making any other reservations or plans.
